The UAB Center for Exercise Medicine is a national leader in the field of exercise medicine research. Promoting community outreach and education based on findings through basic and translational research and exercise clinical trials is a top priority.

"There needs to be a paradigm shift for individuals in disease treatment, prevention, and discovery medicine with global impact. Alabama is among the worst in the U.S. for state rankings inactivity-related diseases. It is time for change,” states Marcas Bamman, Ph.D., FACSM, Founding Director of UCEM.

The UCEM has maintained a proactive outreach program spear-headed by UCEM Associate Director Olivia Affuso, PhD, communications staff, administrative staff, and Core leaders. UCEM's community outreach efforts are aimed at enlightening the community about benefits of exercise via various educational booths and lectures.

  • Educational booth at the Health and Wellness Fair hosted by UAB Recreation Center

  • Educational booth at the Senior Spirit Expo at Hyatt Regency, Birmingham
