The second year of UAB’s Momentum in Medicine program launched this month and includes 16 women across UAB Medicine and UAB Heersink School of Medicine.
The program is a first-in-its-kind option of the highly competitive Momentum Executive Leadership Program hosted by Momentum Leaders—exclusive to women at UAB Medicine.
The full Momentum Executive Leadership curriculum is offered, providing participants with nationally known speakers, professional growth tools, workshops, and more.
“We are excited to be able to offer the Momentum Leaders in Medicine at UAB for the second time” said Jean Ann Larson, Ed.D., MBA, chief leadership development officer of UAB Health System and senior associate dean in the Heersink School of Medicine.
“These women are leaders in our organization and in our communities. I am pleased that we can make this investment at UAB. There are similar programs in other parts of the country, but few that have as much high-level content and nationally known speakers, along with opportunities to be coached and mentored.”
Women in last year’s program raved about the strength-finding components of the program, as well as its ability to inspire and motivate.
“UAB is special because we work to foster leadership in every corner of our institution,” said Anupam Agarwal, M.D., interim senior vice president for Medicine and dean.
“It’s incredibly important to support and invest in programmatic initiatives like Momentum in Medicine that build up a workforce of women and equip them for top leadership roles within the medical landscape of Alabama. I am very proud of the work Jean Ann is doing with Momentum and I am excited to see efforts like these expand as the medical school grows.”
