During the reception, Reid Jones, CEO of UAB Medicine and a supporter of the Institute, provided words of wisdom with a few humorous leadership quotes.

Since its inception in 2016, the LDO’s mission has been to equip leaders with the foundation and essential skills to lead effectively. Keeping in line with that mission, the first series of interactive workshops were created to fill the need for senior and mid-level leadership development through the Institute. Since then, the Institute has grown from one to two cohorts per year, and several of the graduates have gone on to take their teams to the next level.

One of the highlights of the reception was the recognition of the LDO Adjunct Faculty. An integral part of the Institute is the chance for participants to learn from established senior UAB leaders. Those leaders who graciously take the time to give presentations and take part in discussion panels for the Institute are considered LDO adjunct faculty. The following 26 leaders received special lapel pins for their service to the LDO: Anupum Agarwal, M.D., Dean Assimos, M.D., Dawn Bulgarella, Cheri Canon, M.D., Brenda Carlisle, Amanda Chambers, Billy Connelley, Jordan DeMoss, Carmelle Elie, M.D., William Ferniany, M.D., Alison Garretson, Susan Jennings, Reid Jones, Tony Jones, M.D., Kierstin Kennedy, M.D., Laura Kowalczyk, C. Seth Landefeld, M.D., Andre Lessears, George Netto, M.D., Dottie Pak, Anthony Patterson, Terri Poe, D.N.P., Patricia Pritchett, David Randall, Ryan Schultz, David Standaert, M.D., Ph.D.

“Programs that concentrate on senior leadership development are not common in health care even though they are greatly needed,” says Jean Ann Larson, Ph.D., chief leadership development officer and senior associate dean. “Because UAB Medicine recognizes the value of developing leaders and their teams, my team is able to provide different levels and delivery of executive leadership skills so that mid to senior-level leaders can not only focus on their team’s processes and strategic outcomes but also on their team’s culture, collaboration, and engagement. Our tagline says it all: better leadership, better outcomes.”
