Development of a Modular Toolkit for Effective, Ethical, and Equitable Global Neurosurgical Education and Collaboration with James Johnston

James Johnston, M.D., FAANS James Johnston, M.D., FAANS The Mary Heersink Institute for Global Health hosted guest seminar speaker James Johnston, M.D., professor in the UAB Department of Neurosurgery and director of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship, on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Johnston serves as the medical director of the Global Surgery Program at Children's Hospital of Alabama. His diverse practice encompasses neurosurgical oncology, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, neurocritical care, and more. A dedicated researcher, he leads collaborative efforts, notably working on innovative helmet technology for traumatic brain injury. Using his knowledge of neurosurgery and global health, Johnston is currently co-directing a new course for the UAB Master of Science in Global Health, GHM 680 Special Topics in GHM - Global Surgery.
