Jacqueline Garonzik Wang, M.D., Ph.D., director of the UAB Division of Transplantation and co-director of the Comprehensive Transplant Institute, was among the leaders selected for the 12th cohort of the UAB Medicine Institute for Leadership, set to begin in the spring of 2026.
The Institute for Leadership is a six-month program led by the Leadership Development Office and equips mid-level and senior leaders with the skills to navigate change, think strategically, and drive results in the clinical and administrative settings. Participants complete a DISC personality typology assessment, attend sessions led by UAB executive leaders (including past program graduates), and examine real-world case studies and challenges alongside their peers.
"I'm honored to join this group of inspiring UAB leaders," Garonzik Wang said. "Innovation and excellence in patient care depend on strong collaboration, and I look forward to building relationships across the health system that help us advance UAB Medicine's mission of life-changing care together."
Garonzik Wang, who joined UAB in December of 2025, brings extensive experience from leadership roles at some of the nation's top academic medical centers. She previously served as surgical director of the Kidney Transplant Program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and before that as a transplant surgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She completed her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine and earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
