The UAB Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) has earned a three-star rating—the highest distinction awarded by the Society for Vascular Surgery's Vascular Quality Initiative (SVS VQI) for the fourth consecutive year through the 2025 Commitment to Vascular Quality Improvement (CVQI) Awards.
The annual recognition honors vascular centers that demonstrate sustained engagement in quality improvement through participation in the Vascular Quality Initiative, one of the world's largest clinical registries dedicated to improving vascular care.
The three-star designation reflects excellence across four key areas:
- Providing comprehensive long-term patient follow-up, including timelyone-year outcomes reporting
- Regular participation in regional VQI quality improvementmeetings
- Implementingquality improvement initiativesinformed by registry data
- Maintaining participationacross multiple VQI procedural registries

as one of 120 of 879 eligible centers nationwide to receive the highest three-star designation in 2025, placing it among thenation's top-performing VQI participants for the fourth consecutive year.
“Earning the highest possible rating for a fourth consecutive year reflects the consistency and discipline our team brings to every aspect of vascular care—from the operating room to long-term patient follow-up and the integrity of our clinical data,” said Adam Beck, M.D.,CVI director of quality and associate chief medical quality officer, who also serves as director of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. “Maintaining this level of engagement year after year requires a coordinated commitment from surgeons, advanced practice providers, nurses, clinical research professionals, and data managers across our entire division.”
The recognition underscores the culture of continuous quality improvement across the UAB Cardiovascular Institute, which brings together specialists in cardiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and cardiothoracic anesthesia within one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular programs.
For patients, participation in the VQI means their care is continuously measured against national benchmarks, enabling UAB teams to identify opportunities for improvement, adopt evidence-based best practices, and enhance outcomes through an ongoing commitment to quality and accountability.
