The IAC accreditation represents one of the highest benchmarks of quality in vascular and venous care. Programs undergoing review are evaluated on physician qualifications, staff training, clinical protocols, diagnostic accuracy, patient safety measures, quality improvement initiatives, and documented patient outcomes. Achieving reaccreditation demonstrates not only compliance with national standards, but a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

The UAB Vein Clinic operates under the direction of Marc Passman, M.D., professor of surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and director of the UAB Vein Program and Vein Clinic. Passman practices the full scope of vascular and endovascular surgery and is widely recognized as a national leader in venous disease. Passman has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has contributed to the development of multiple national, evidence-based clinical guidelines for the management of vascular and venous disorders. His leadership extends beyond UAB through active roles in several professional organizations, including the American Venous Forum and service on the board of directors for the IAC–Vein, where he helps shape accreditation standards for vein programs nationwide.DylanDr. Marc Passman.

Under Passman’s guidance, the UAB Vein Clinic has grown into a regional referral center known for its comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to venous disease. The clinic emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, individualized treatment planning, and integration of both noninvasive and advanced procedural therapies to optimize patient outcomes.

“The reaccreditation process highlights the clinic’s strong emphasis on patient education, safety, and long-term follow-up,” Passman said. “Through standardized protocols and continuous quality monitoring, the UAB Vein Clinic team works to ensure that patients receive consistent, high-quality care aligned with best practices in venous medicine.”

UAB clinics are also accredited through the IAC for vascular testing, including extracranial cerebrovascular testing, peripheral arterial testing, peripheral venous testing, visceral vascular testing, and screening.
