Aras is originally from Istanbul, Turkey. He came to the United States to study Management and Information Systems. Aras attended Troy University in 2001 then transferred to UAB to complete his bachelor's degree. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree in 2004, he began working for the Division of Preventive Medicine (DOPM) as the coordinator of data collection for a national research study funded by NCI. In 2015, he obtained his MBA and is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Health Services Administration. During his time in DOPM, he has worked on large, multi-site community-based research studies in the US Southeastern region, managing data operations.

Aras joined the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care Team in 2020 as the Regional Director for Outreach. Since 2021, he has been serving as the Administrative Director of CPSC, overseeing research, education, and outreach initiatives of the Center, working with the Center’s administrative team.
