Estella Woods-Holmes, RN, MSN, ENL became a nurse in 1997 after graduating from Wallace Community College, Selma (WCCS) as a License Practical Nurse (LPN). She became a staff nurse and the Restorative Coordinator for pressure ulcer prevention at the UAB Mary Lewis Skilled Nursing Facility (MLSNF). This experience combined with all the nursing homes, home health roles and local hospitals. She was inspired to later return to WCCS and graduated in 2000 with her RN degree. Stella begin working as an Emergency Room staff RN for Vaughan Regional Medical Center and a RN supervisor in many other long-term care facilities.

In 2004 she returned to UAB as a “Charge Nurse “for UAB-MLSNF. In 2006 after many years of nursing in multiple areas. Including her most recent experience as a UAB- pulmonary nurse. Stella accepted the opportunity to be one of the first staff nurses for the first UAB-Palliative and Comfort Care Unit (PCCU). She attends and participates in the End of Life Nursing Education (ELNEC). Stella is also certified as a Targeted Selection Interviewer. Her great leadership skills was reflected in her work as the unit RN preceptor for new staff and many unit committee commitments

In 2010 Stella completed the UAB “Career Advancement Program) UAB Clinical Nurse Level II. In 2014 Stella graduated from UAB School of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. By 2015 she became PCCU’s first Assistant Nurse Manager. Her leadership career excelled again in 2017 when Stella was promoted to be the Nurse Manager for UAB Palliative Comfort Care Unit. Stella graduated with a Master Degree from Purdue University School of Nursing with a concentration in Executive Leader in 2019. With twenty five years of acute care nursing experience. Stella maintain a strong reputation for achieving high levels of patient and employee satisfaction. Her professional growth continues as she leads the nursing staff on UAB Inpatient Palliative and Comfort Care Unit.
