Training Program in Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases Research

The Training Program in Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Diseases Research builds on trans-departmental initiatives in mechanisms of arthritis, autoimmunity, inflammation, bone, and musculoskeletal diseases, and state of the art basic, translational, clinical, and outcomes research. To provide an effective interdisciplinary training environment, this program builds on a large infrastructure with established research programs and a longstanding history of outstanding basic, translational, and clinical research, and multidisciplinary training programs in research.

Training Grant in Immunologic Diseases and Basic Immunology

The multi-disciplinary Program in Immunology consists of over 100 UAB Faculty who identify themselves as basic or clinical immunologists and are members of multiple units at UAB. A desire for excellence on the part of the UAB faculty, coupled with the relative youth of the institution, has promoted a collective attitude of interdepartmental cooperation and collegiality. UAB is the home of several internationally prominent research programs, e.g., Developmental Immunology, Mucosal Immunology, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology Division, Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Center, Host Defense, Virology and Vaccine Biology.  Newer programs in Cancer Immunology, Allergy, Immunogenetics, Inflammation and Tissue Injury, Transplantation Immunology, Neuroimmunology, and Basic Immunology of the T cell and innate systems are poised to become highly competitive.

UAB T32 Health Services & Outcomes Research Training Program

The Health Services/Comparative Effectiveness Research Training Program (HSR/CERTP) at UAB is a combined fellowships mentored research training program in health services & outcomes research and comparative effectiveness research (Kenneth Saag, MD, MSc, PD/PI). These are full-time mentored research training fellowships supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) through Institutional (T32) National Research Training Awards (NRSA): Our research and training base includes a partnership of UAB interdisciplinary research centers and programs and is primarily drawn from across 7 UAB Schools (Medicine, Public Health, Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, Business, and College of Arts and Sciences), offering a pool of almost 25 experienced Mentors.
