Biography
Dr. Gaillard initially joined the faculty at UAB in 2020 as clinical assistant professor. Originally from Charleston, SC, Dr. Gaillard maintains strong familial and cultural ties to the lowcountry. He attended the University of Georgia for undergraduate education where he graduated cum laude. He returned home to work in the laboratory of Francis G. Spinale studying cardiovascular surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina cultivating his long-lasting interest in the cardiovascular system.
In 2013, Dr. Gaillard completed his medical education at MUSC before matching into and completing general surgery training at UF Health, Shands Hospital, in Gainesville, FL. His experience at the University of Florida cemented an interest in vascular surgery which led to his fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, from which he graduated in 2020. Dr. Gaillard is a board certified in general surgery and specialty trained in vascular surgery. His professional interests are primarily the clinical practice of open and minimally invasive surgery, in addition to collaborative hands-on education of vascular and general surgical residents. His areas of specialty include the patient-centered treatment of arterial occlusive disease, aneurysmal disease, arterial dissection and hemodialysis access.
