About Preservation Hall Jazz Band
Throughout its history, New Orleans has been a place where sounds and cultures from around the world converge, mingle and resurface, transformed by the Crescent City’s inimitable spirit and joie de vivre. Nowhere is that idea more vividly embodied than in the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. PHJB has held the torch of New Orleans music aloft for more than 65 years, preserving a vibrantly living history.
Situated in the heart of the French Quarter, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans jazz concerts over 360 nights a year. The performing ensembles are made up from a current collective of 60 masters of traditional New Orleans jazz. These musicians have learned the traditional style from the greats who played before them and are now working to pass it on themselves. There is no audition process to play at Preservation Hall. While many of the musicians are related to the original players by lineage, they are all connected through sheer power of tradition. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition, and PHJB keeps marching that tradition forward.
