Non-essential events on the UAB campus have been canceled due to public health concerns related to the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). For the latest updates on UAB’s response to COVID-19 and health information, visit www.uab.edu/coronavirus.

Twelve graduating University of Alabama at Birmingham students will have their works featured in a Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition April 6-May 2.

A free closing reception for the exhibition will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 1. The exhibition and reception are in UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts; both are free and open to the public.

The students in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History have produced works that represent the culmination of their academic and studio education at UAB, says Department of Art and Art History program coordinator Melissa Yes.

“A BFA is a professional undergraduate degree, so it is fitting to celebrate its completion with a public exhibition at the beautiful Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts,” Yes said. “The quality and breadth of the students’ work showcases their talent and reflects the strengths of our dynamic academic program.”

The Department of Art and Art History’s Bachelor of Fine Arts degree offers students an intensive exploration across a breadth of media, and within a depth of discipline that allows undergraduate students to prepare to be artists or designers, to begin careers in the arts, or to continue their studies in graduate school. Students gain skills and competencies including team-based learning, technology, communication, aesthetic judgment, interdisciplinary and innovative approaches, critical analysis, and professional development throughout their program of study.

The artists are Destany Faye, Shea Glaster, Salma Hernandez Palma, Haley Hester Knight, Izzy Looney, Angelica Lyublinskaya, Matthew McAdams, Maddie McCann, Sophie McVicar, Kole Nichols, Hannah Slatsky and Aubrey Venkler.
