Kevin Spencer brings free magic show to UAB’s Alys Stephens Center on Oct. 10

World-renowned illusionist Spencer, a Birmingham favorite, is a leader in physical and psycho-social rehabilitation using the therapeutic benefits of magic tricks. This show is also a sensory-friendly performance.

Spencer, a Birmingham favorite, is a world-renowned illusionist and leader in physical and psycho-social rehabilitation using the therapeutic benefits of magic tricks. A teaching artist, researcher, consultant, speaker, curriculum designer and award-winning film producer, Spencer believes in creating inclusive communities where everyone experiences an authentic sense of belonging and no one is relegated to the margins.

His fun-filled show features storytelling, stage magic and audience participation. Spencer is widely considered the leading authority on the therapeutic use of magic tricks in special education and rehabilitation. He developed the UAB Magic Camp, a collaboration between the UAB School of Health Professions’ Department of Occupational Therapy, Children’s of Alabama, Hocus Focus™ and UAB Occupational Therapy students, who are trained in Spencer’s protocol and provide instruction to the campers.

Due to capacity restrictions, registration does not guarantee admittance, and admittance/seating will be general admission, seated in order of arrival. All individuals within a party must enter the venue at the same time to be seated together. Due to COVID protocol, saving seats is not permitted.

The pandemic is a fluid situation that UAB is monitoring, in consultation with infectious disease and public health experts; performances will be subject to change based on the latest COVID-19 safety guidelines. Event staff and attendees are required to wear masks indoors on campus regardless of vaccination status, as well as maintain proper distancing while on UAB’s campus, including at events.
