Screenings will take a few minutes to conduct and will include a check for lesions and lumps on the neck or in the mouth. The University of Alabama at Birmingham is fighting oral cancer by providing free screenings the week of April 15-19.
The screenings, hosted by the departments of Otolaryngology and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, will take a few minutes to conduct and will include a check for lesions and lumps inside the mouth and on the neck. If anything concerning is found during the screening, a follow-up appointment with UAB Medicine will be scheduled.
Individuals who may be at risk for oral cancer include those who:
- use tobacco or alcohol
- are infected with HPV
- have a mass or pain in the head, neck or mouth
Screenings will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery lobbies at the following locations:
