Spencer will present a relaxed, sensory-friendly performance designed to create an experience welcoming to all families.

magic kevin spencerstreamAward-winning magician Kevin Spencer will perform his fun-filled show featuring storytelling, stage magic and audience participation Sunday, Sept. 16.

Spencer, a Birmingham favorite, is a world-renowned illusionist and artist widely considered the leading authority on the therapeutic use of magic tricks in special education and rehabilitation. He believes in creating inclusive communities where everyone experiences an authentic sense of belonging and no one — for any reason — is relegated to the margins.

During his residency at UAB, presented by UAB’s Institute for Arts in Medicine, Spencer will give workshops at the Exceptional Foundation for adults with cognitive disabilities and performances at Children’s of Alabama, as well as workshops with occupational therapy students in the UAB School of Health Professions.

“The Magic of Kevin Spencer” is set for 2 p.m. at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. For this show, Spencer will present a relaxed, sensory-friendly performance designed to create an experience that is welcoming to all families, including those with children with autism or with other developmental or intellectual disabilities that create sensory sensitivities. The performance was specifically designed to be baffling and entertaining for all members of the audience. Tickets are $5 and will support the UAB Arts in Medicine program.
