More than 120 Cooper Green employees volunteered at 10 organizations across the Birmingham Community.
Cooper Green Mercy Health Services shut down its operations Friday, Oct. 9, to allow staff to participate in Serve Day, a day dedicated to giving back to organizations that serve Cooper Green patients and the Greater Birmingham community.
“Our community is strongest when our community organizations come together to support one another,” said Laura Hurst, the administrator of Cooper Green Mercy Health Services. “We are so grateful for the opportunity to pour back into the organizations that serve us and our patients every day. We look forward to continuing working with them in the future to improve the lives of those we serve.”
Staff members volunteered at 10 locations throughout the Birmingham area, supporting organizations through a variety of service projects. This provided Cooper Green employees with the opportunity to step outside their traditional healthcare roles and directly support and strengthen relationships with community partners whose work plays an important role in the health and well-being of the same individuals and families they serve.
Volunteers completed a wide variety of tasks including housekeeping and maintenance tasks, serving food, sorting through clothing donations, reading to children, packing food donation boxes, and writing cards with words of encouragement.
