Learn how to better meet the needs of a diverse student population

The five imperatives most necessary to successfully meet the complex needs of students will be discussed at a free lecture.

Rich Milner, IV, Ph.D., professor of education at Vanderbilt University, on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. as he discusses the “Five Educational Imperatives for Justice.” Milner will center his lecture at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on equity and how the five imperatives can be used to meet the complex needs of students.

Students living below the poverty line, those whose first language is not English, black and brown students, and those experiencing out-of-school challenges across the United States are often not experiencing optimal learning opportunities in schools. Centering on issues of equity, Milner will discuss the challenges educators face and share the five imperatives necessary to more successfully meet the complex needs of students.

The event is open to the public and will be at the UAB National Alumni Society House. Admission is free.
