alzheimers 2The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alzheimer’s Disease Center will join a solidarity walk, “Move For Your Memories,” on Nov. 1-7 in collaboration with Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama. The event encourages everyone to get outside and walk, run, bike or otherwise move every day that week.

“Move For Your Memories” is an initiative to support and educate both professionals and the public about the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Create a name for your team or name it after the person in whose memory you are walking, and register for the event here.

Researchers found that people who exercise are up to 28 percent less likely to develop any type of dementia and 45 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease specifically. Therefore, move and preserve your memories!

Celebrate Saturday, Nov. 7, the final day of the event, at the “Drive Through” of Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama’s office in Homewood, 300 Office Park Drive, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Contributions can be made online or through drop-off donations. Donors will be eligible to get T-shirts, door prizes and other surprises.
