Campus.Tour.1Being in high school during a pandemic has its challenges, particularly when students are trying to decide what their next step in life will be and which university they will call home. The University of Alabama at Birmingham has created opportunities for students to see campus safely.

“COVID-19 has created many challenges for everyone, including high school students who are trying to decide what university they want to attend,” said Bradley Barnes, Ph.D., vice provost of Enrollment Management at UAB. “UAB has taken a proactive approach to limit the spread of COVID-19, including for prospective students. We want them to experience campus and what life would be like for them as a Blazer.”

UAB’s Office of Admissions has created unique opportunities for prospective students to experience campus in person and virtually.

Experience UAB in person

On-campus visits are being conducted safely with specific requirements, including:

  • Campus tours, where prospective students can tour campus, see Birmingham in the Dragon Wagon and hear from an admissions counselor about how to become a Blazer.
  • Academic information sessions offer prospective students the opportunity to meet with an academic representative to learn about majors and scholarships and get an inside look at where time will be spent learning.
  • Self-guided tours are a convenient way to see campus and listen to current students tell about each stop.
UAB will not require applicants for spring, summer and fall 2021 to submit ACT or SAT test scores for admission or scholarship consideration due to COVID-19. Learn more here.

All guests on UAB’s campus are required to wear a mask and will be provided with one if they do not have their own. Guests who display symptoms related to COVID-19, who have experienced symptoms related to COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or who have come in contact with someone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days are asked not to participate in activities on campus. UAB is regularly cleaning its facilities, practicing social distancing and limiting the number of people on its campus. Visitors are strongly encouraged to download the GuideSafe™️ Exposure Notification application before coming to campus.

Virtual visits

For those who live farther away or are unable to come to UAB’s campus, there are several options to experience campus life virtually.

  • Virtual campus tours through iVisit, a digital hub for everything future Blazers need to know about UAB.
  • Virtual information sessions with admissions counselors and other UAB representatives to learn about admissions, academics and more.
