UAB men’s and women’s soccer programs to host free community event and scrimmage

UAB’s soccer teams will host a free community event and scrimmage for local fans and youth Aug. 15.

Kick.1The University of Alabama at Birmingham men’s and women’s soccer programs have announced the return of “Kickin’ It With the Blazers” on Sunday, Aug. 15. The free event will be held at BBVA Field and gives fans a chance to meet the players and coaches, as well as get autographs from players of both teams.

Additionally, there will be a clinic and scrimmage where participants play alongside current UAB soccer athletes.

“It’s great to be able to have this event again,” said Jeff Kinney, UAB men’s soccer head coach. “Getting to work with our soccer community as a team is something we look forward to every year. We can’t wait to see everyone out there once again.”

The event will be from 3-5 p.m.; gates will open at 2:30 p.m. Free shirts and water bottles will be given to the first 100 youths in attendance.

Erica Demers, UAB women’s soccer head coach, credits the success and turnout of the 2019 “Kickin’ It” event for the excitement surrounding this year’s day.

“The environment created in 2019 from Kickin’ It was outstanding, and I love that our programs are bringing this back to the Birmingham soccer community,” Demers said. “We are thrilled to host this event again.”
