CORD Fair StreamCARSEF is one the largest regional science and engineering fairs in the nation, where students will showcase their scientific knowledge and skills.The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Center for Community OutReach Development is hosting the 2023 Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair — the largest regional fair in the state for the 13th year in a row, and one of the largest regional fairs in the nation, on March 4 at the UAB Recreation Center. 

CORD’s in-person science fair will host over 450 Alabama middle and high school students who will demonstrate their knowledge of science at the fair. Middle school students will compete in the Junior Division, and high school students will compete in the Senior Division. 

Judging will occur from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., by UAB faculty, staff and community leaders. The exhibits will open to the public at noon. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.

First- to third-place winners in each category will advance to compete at the in-person State Fair at Auburn University on April 1. The top four Senior Division winners of the UAB fair will automatically advance to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair held in May in Dallas.

The UAB regional fair is open to all middle and high school students in Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dekalb, Etowah, Jefferson, Randolph, St. Clair, Shelby, Talladega, Tuscaloosa and Walker counties.
