UAB programs continue to rise, according to US News rankings

UAB ranked No. 142 out of 435 measured schools in 2023, serving as a testament to the university’s continued growth and national exposure as a competitive and attractive university.

USNWR Rankings 2023 550x4131The University of Alabama at Birmingham has been recognized once again by U.S. News & World Report as a Best College, ranking No. 142 out of 435 measured schools in their 2023 Best Colleges list. This ranking serves as a testament to the university’s continued growth and national exposure as a competitive and attractive university. The UAB School of Nursing’s Undergraduate Nursing landed in the top 10 programs for the third year in a row and climbed two spots from last year, ranking No. 7 of 656 programs in the country, and is the top school in Alabama.

UAB also had the highest sub rank (No. 36) of all Alabama schools for the new Bibliometric ranking metric, which measures faculty performance through research publications. This indicates UAB’s publications between 2018 and 2022 received a high number of citations.

For the first time, USNWR sourced data directly from the U.S. Department of Education. Using these data, USNWR ranked UAB’s financial resources at No. 41, suggesting that UAB spends more per student on average than peer institutions.

Additional rankings of note include:

  • The Collat School of Business’ overall Undergraduate Business programs moved five spots from its 2022 ranking to No. 103 in the country.
  • UAB’s School of Engineering’s Undergraduate Engineering programs ranked at No. 135 nationally.
  • The undergraduate psychology program tied at No. 80 with Auburn University.
  • UAB jumped six spots to 188 as a 2024 Best Value School.
  • UAB ranked at No. 198 in Social Mobility, the highest ranking among Alabama schools.
