Fishing club to compete in regional championship

The UAB Fishing Club will compete for $50,000 worth of scholarships and prizes in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship Sept. 8-10 on Alabama's Lake Harding.

The UAB Fishing Club will compete for $50,000 worth of scholarships and prizes in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Regional Championship Sept. 8-10 on Alabama's Lake Harding.

Representing UAB are senior Taylor Mardis and junior Patrick Townes. The club with the heaviest catch of bass wins. Besides cash, the winning haul includes a bass fishing boat wrapped in the club’s school colors. The competition will air on the national NBC-owned TV channel Versus at noon CST Nov. 13.

Founded in 2007, UAB’s fishing club has consistently ranked among the top college clubs in competitive fishing.
