UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Center will sponsor PurpleStride Birmingham, a 5K timed run/walk and a 1-mile fun walk Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Homewood Central Park during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Registration begins at 7 a.m.; the race will begin at 8 a.m.
All proceeds benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization that works closely with the UAB Cancer Center to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. The Cancer Center is one of four institutions in the nation to hold a Specialized Program of Research Excellence grant in pancreatic cancer. These highly prestigious grants are designed to move research findings quickly and safely from the laboratory to the clinical setting.
