Graphic Design alum honored for Split Milk design

Alumna's interactive design for milk products packaging recognized by design awards program.


UAB graphic design alumna Alyssa Mitchell was awarded a student runner-up award in the Core77 2012 Design Awards program in July. Mitchell’s project, “Split Milk,” is for Earth Fare milk products packaging, which is made of French Paper Company’s Smart White line to emphasize the mill’s commitment to conservation, according to the Core77 news announcement.

Partial images of cows appear across the packaging; when rotated, the cartons form a shelf-stable system. The artistic elements encourage the consumer to interact with the product.

Mitchell is an emerging designer director for American Institute for the Graphic Arts, the professional association for design.

Recognizing excellence in all areas of design enterprise, the Core77 Design Awards celebrate the richness of the design profession and its practitioners. In 2012 there were 17 categories, providing designers, researchers and writers an opportunity to communicate the intent, rigor and passion behind their efforts.
