The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the Schaeffer Eye Center Endowed Optometry Award during its meeting June 14, 2013. The award will support deserving students in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry. Jack L. Schaeffer, O.D., has served as an adjunct faculty member in the school, and he established Schaeffer Eye Center in 1979, which has grown to 15 locations across northern Alabama.
