Opioid crisis is subject of 39th Reynolds-Finley Lecture

Every day, more than 115 Americans die after overdosing on opioids.

opioid epidemic streamThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Libraries will host its 39th annual Reynolds-Finley Historical Lecture on Friday, March 9, at 4 p.m. This year’s speaker will be Stephen M. Taylor, M.D.

Taylor is in his 11th season as the medical director of the Player Assistance and Anti-Drug Program of the National Basketball Association. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and a quadruple-board-certified general, child/adolescent, and addiction psychiatrist whose life’s work has been to help adolescents and adults overcome the devastating scourge of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction. In addition to his 23 years of practice experience, Taylor has served as a speaker, educator and presenter for audiences throughout the United States. Taylor will present a lecture titled “The Opioid Crisis.”

This event is free and open to the public and will be held in Lecture Room E of Volker Hall, located at 1670 University Blvd., Birmingham, Alabama. Parking is reserved in UAB Lot 5A. The entrance is located on 16th Street between University Boulevard and Seventh Avenue South.

The objective of the Reynolds-Finley Historical Lecture Series is to review, assess and discuss various historical aspects of the health care sciences. The Annual Reynolds-Finley Lecture is the foremost presentation in this series that brings speakers of prominence to the UAB.
