UAB’s Alys Stephens Center presents Alonzo King LINES Ballet in two performances Jan. 7-8

Alonzo King creates works that draw on a diverse set of cultural traditions, imbuing classical ballet with new expressive potential. His visionary choreography, brought to life by the extraordinary LINES Ballet dancers, is renowned for connecting audiences to a profound sense of shared humanity.

UAB fall commencement ceremony, doctoral hooding Dec. 17

An estimated 625 students will participate in the commencement ceremony, and 745 students will graduate. The university’s highest degrees will be conferred on 79 students from 18 states and seven countries in the doctoral hooding ceremony.

UAB presents movie “Changeover” with group discussion on overcoming tragedy Dec. 12

The film was produced by Assistant Professor of Music Technology Craig Brandwein. Psychology faculty will be on hand to discuss how to cope with adverse circumstances after the film.

UAB to host first Undergraduate Symposium in Art History Dec. 7

Students will present papers on topics as diverse as the Aztecs’ bloody past, the Egyptian goddess Isis, Charles-François Daubigny’s floating studio, a mask of the female Sande society and the representation of women in 18th-century French portraiture.

UAB’s Yakov Kasman to perform Dec. 6 in Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s Concertmaster and Friends series

Kasman will join ASO members for “Quintessential Quintets” to perform two great piano quintets, one from the 19th century by Robert Schumann and one from the 20th century by Dmitry Shostakovich.

UAB exhibition features works by three graduating students, on show Dec. 5-17

The UAB Bachelor of Fine Arts exhibition represents the culmination of a diverse and intensive program of undergraduate study and will feature illustration, photography and printmaking by Lucy Allen, Amber Gomez and Anna-Kate Marcum.

UAB’s Alys Stephens Center presents the UAB Gospel Choir featuring singer Alicia Olatuja on Dec. 4

Olatuja and her band will open the concert, and the UAB Gospel Choir will then join her in performing holiday-inspired songs. Olatuja also will lead a vocal master class with students in the choir. UAB students, employees, faculty and alumni may purchase $10 tickets.
