All of Birmingham is invited to the city’s hottest free concert, as UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center presents its sixth annual Inter-ART-ive outdoor party, featuring the big sounds of global music sensation Red Baraat, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.
The arts will get interactive when the party starts at 6 p.m. UAB Music’s acclaimed Marching Blazers Drumline will open the event with a bang, followed by a performance by Juka Tribe, funky, Brooklyn-based headliner Red Baraat and a community drum circle with John Scalici and Friends. Admission is free for all, rain or shine. The action will last until 9 p.m., all taking place with plenty of room to boogie in the Engel Outdoor Plaza at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.

Ah, the election year, full of presidential candidates’ state fair speeches, scary political ads and family and friends divided by party lines. So who better to inform voters about the facts than “The Daily Show Live”?
UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center is getting political by bringing “The Daily Show Live” and its Indecision Tour 2012 to Birmingham at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, in the center, 1200 10th Ave. South.
The evening will begin with a 10-minute video introduction by Stewart, followed by stand-up performances and a Q-and-A with the audience, which will cover what it’s like to write for and be a part of a hugely successful television show. All eyes will be on UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center Sept. 25-28, 2012, when MASS Ensemble and the ASC present “Cirque Alys Aerial Music,” an original, immersive musical experience combining one-of-a-kind instruments, musicians, aerial performers and sculpture.
