Allman named medical representative for state seniors board

Richard Allman, M.D., has been named the medical representative on the board of directors of the Alabama Department of Senior Services by Gov. Robert Bentley.

richard_allman_2011_01Richard Allman, M.D., director of the division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care at UAB has been named the medical representative on the board of directors of the Alabama Department of Senior Services by Gov. Robert Bentley.

The Alabama Department of Senior Services is a cabinet-level state agency that administers programs for senior citizens and people with disabilities. It administers statewide programs on aging that cover all 67 counties through the Regional Planning Commissions and the local Area Agencies on Aging.

Allman is also the Parrish Endowed Professor of Medicine and the director of the UAB Center for Aging. Under his leadership since 1990, the division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care has achieved an outstanding national reputation and has grown from 9 to 51 faculty members including 31 physicians and 20 doctoral level basic and social-behavioral scientists.
