The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the James P. Hayes Jr. Endowed Professorship in Gastrointestinal Oncology in the Department of Surgery and approved the appointment of Martin J. Heslin, M.D. as its first holder during its meeting April 13, 2012. Heslin is a professor of surgery and joined the UAB faculty in 1996.
