Elewski receives top honor from dermatology society

bonnie_elewski_1-1UAB Professor of Dermatology Boni E. Elewski, M.D., was presented with the prestigious Rose Hirschler Award by the Women’s Dermatologic Society at its 36th annual meeting held in New Orleans Feb. 3-6, 2011. Named for the first woman dermatologist in the United States, the award is given to extraordinary physicians who have made significant contributions to medicine and dermatology and whose achievements have enhanced the role of women in dermatology.

Elewski also is vice chair of clinical affairs and director of clinical research in the UAB Department of Dermatology. She is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, which she has served as president and vice president, and is a member of its Bioterrorism Task Force and Women’s Health Task Force. She is a reviewer for multiple dermatological journals, including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Archives of Dermatology. She is a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and Cosmetic Dermatology. Elewski has published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has authored multiple books and book chapters.
