Cynthia J. Brown, M.D., MSPH, associate professor of medicine, has been appointed director of UAB’s Geriatric Medicine Section in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care.
The section comprises 19 physicians and one nurse faculty member who provide leadership for the geriatric clinical and educational initiatives. They conduct externally funded research in the areas of mobility, incontinence, palliative care, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, symptom burden, models of care and education.
Brown was recruited to UAB in 2003 as the UAB Hospital Geriatric Program manager and as an investigator in the Birmingham/Atlanta Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center and medical director for its Fall Prevention and Mobility Clinic.
