Exterior of UAB Medicine The Kirklin Clinic at Acton Road, October 2020.A $2 million investment will allow patients to enjoy greater scheduling flexibility, fewer treatment delays and better support for complex diagnoses.A cancer diagnosis can be daunting and life‑changing. To help ensure patients across Alabama have timely access to world‑class cancer care, the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is investing $2 million in expanding its Acton Road ClinicActon Road Clinic

Located off Interstate 459 between Hoover and Vestavia Hills, the Acton Road Clinic brings leading‑edge cancer care closer to Birmingham’s over‑the‑mountain communities and areas south of the city. Patients receive the same world-class, multidisciplinary care offered at UAB’s main campus in a setting with free parking and convenient access.

The renovation will double the clinic’s capacity without interrupting ongoing patient care. The expansion includes extending the lab and adding seven new exam rooms, enabling more than 10,000 additional patient encounters each year, across clinics and the infusion therapy center at the Acton Road location. Forty additional parking spots will be added.

“As the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Alabama, our goal is to provide timely, convenient access to cancer care to the people of Alabama,” said Jordan DeMoss, executive vice president of UAB Hospital. “We are here to treat all patients with a cancer diagnosis and to ensure access to life‑changing clinical trials. Our vision is that no patient must leave the great state of Alabama to receive world‑class, timely cancer care.”

To support this growth, the O’Neal Cancer Center continues to recruit top cancer specialists to Birmingham. In recent years, the number of medical oncologists at UAB has doubled, reflecting the center’s commitment to expanding care and expertise. The additional space at Acton Road will support this growing team of oncologists and surgeons who deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary cancer care.

The O’Neal Cancer Center at Acton Road offers a full scope of oncology services, including medical oncology, infusion therapy and radiation oncology.

The renovation began in March and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026.
