Addressing LGBTQ health risk and resilience in the Southeast

Learn about important terms, concepts and ways the rapidly changing landscape impacts LGBTQ health as well as research and practice, specifically in the Southeast, in a free webinar hosted by the Region IV Public Health Training Center and the UAB School of Public Health on May 10 at 11 a.m.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health and the Region IV Public Health Training Center will host a free webinar Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. with Sarah MacCarthy, Sc.D., the first Magic City LGBTQ Health Studies Endowed Professor in the UAB School of Public Health.

She will discuss important concepts and terms related to LGBTQ health and how the rapidly changing landscape impacts LGBTQ health as well as research and practice, specifically in the Southeast. She will also provide resources that can be used to find evidence-based practices to serve LGBTQ populations.

“LGBTQ communities have developed incredible resilience and coping mechanisms in response to daily experiences with stigma and discrimination,” MacCarthy said. “It is important we learn how to appropriately support and empower LGBTQ communities, as both advocates and allies.”
