UAB earns Joint Commission’s approval for mechanical circulatory support device program

UAB Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its mechanical circulatory-support-device program, which complies with the national standards for health-care quality and safety in disease-specific care.

“UAB Hospital has proven its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients receiving VAD therapy,” says Jean Range, M.S., R.N., executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, The Joint Commission. “Certification is a voluntary process, and I commend UAB Hospital for successfully undertaking this challenge.”

“With Joint Commission certification, we are making a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis from the top down,” says Salpy Pamboukian, M.D., medical director of UAB’s mechanical circulatory-support-device program. “Joint Commission accreditation provides us a framework to take our organization to the next level, helps create a culture of excellence and is a major step toward maintaining that excellence while continually improving the care we provide.”
