UAB Callahan Eye opens new clinic in Tuscaloosa

The 18th clinic location in Callahan’s growing portfolio of ophthalmic and optometric care is opening Monday, Aug. 29.

Serving at the new clinic are providers Eric Sputh, M.D., and Michelle Langkawel, O.D., who have practiced in the Tuscaloosa area for several years.

“We are excited to have Dr. Sputh and Dr. Langkawel join our team,” said Rett Grover, UAB Callahan Eye’s chief executive officer. “We have been looking to join the Tuscaloosa area for some time, and their experience and reputation within the community will be invaluable assets. With this new clinic and partnership, we will be able to deliver the best care in a convenient location while continuing to build relationships and provide exceptional patient experiences for those living in and near the city of Tuscaloosa.”

The Tuscaloosa clinic offers patients access to comprehensive eye care specialists and includes an on-site optical store. Patients who visit the clinic will receive services including family eye care, eye exams, cataract evaluations, glaucoma screenings, cornea diagnosis and treatment, and contact lens evaluations. All Callahan Eye patients are eligible to receive a 15 percent discount on all sunglasses and eyeglasses.

“We are continually looking for ways to better serve our patients, and this new location allows us to provide members of the Tuscaloosa community with the expert care they are used to receiving from UAB Callahan Eye in a more convenient, timely manner,” Grover said.
