UAB, Birmingham Barons make patient’s baseball dreams come true

Six-year-old Waylon Marshall was able to sign a one-day contract with the Barons, a true milestone just six months after a traumatic hand injury was thought to have crushed his baseball dreams.    

In partnership with the Birmingham Barons, Birmingham’s minor league baseball team and Double-A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, University of Alabama at Birmingham orthopedic patient Waylon Marshall, age 6, received the night of his life at the ballpark recently, celebrating his recovery from a traumatic hand injury.

Waylon’s special day with the Barons included signing a one-day contract with the team, attending batting practice, throwing out the first pitch and calling some of the game from the press box.
