Lee named UAB Medicine healthcare epidemiologist

Lee will lead UAB Medicine’s Infection Prevention team.

Lee2Rachael Lee, M.D.Rachael Lee, M.D., assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Infectious Diseases, has been named UAB Medicine’s healthcare epidemiologist.

In this role, Lee will lead the Infection Prevention team for the entire health system. The Infection Prevention team spearheads precautions and protocols for disease outbreaks that directly impact UAB’s hospitals and campus, as well as its impact on the community.

The team also implements hospital-wide standards and determines appropriate isolations, transport of patients throughout UAB Medicine facilities and more, in relation to serious outbreaks.

“As the state’s only Level I trauma center and largest hospital, we often see the highest level of cases throughout Alabama and surrounding regions, which means we have to have many plans in place should outbreaks occur,” Lee said. “I look forward this opportunity, and will work diligently in keeping our patients, visitors and staff healthy.”
