Book examines history of campus crime in the United States

A professor in the UAB Department of Justice Sciences has published a new book that examines the history of campus crime in the United States. John J. Sloan III, Ph.D., has co-authored the book The Dark Side of the Ivory Tower (Cambridge University Press), with Bonnie S. Fisher at the University of Cincinnati.

The book, based on research using mass media and scholarly sources, chronicles how four groups of activists - college student advocates, feminists, victims and their families, and public health experts — used a variety of tactics and strategies to convince the public that campus crime posed a new danger to the safety and security of college students and the Ivory Tower, while convincing policymakers to take action against the problem.
