The University of Alabama at Birmingham Financial Management Association student chapter was recently recognized as a Superior Chapter by the Financial Management Association International for the 2018-2019 academic year. This designation is the highest honor awarded to a student chapter or honor society.

Of the 175 international student chapters, fewer than 10 percent receive the award annually.

Each chapter must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the award, in addition to demonstrating exceptional chapter management. The UAB chapter created and maintained a chapter website, published a newsletter, completed a chapter resume book, submitted two press releases, and held a minimum of eight career development programs throughout the year.

“The Superior Chapter Award is a very flattering affirmation of the level of success with which all students involved have managed,” said Daniel Sanabria, instructor in the UAB Collat School of Business and faculty adviser for the UAB FMA chapter. “It is a reflection on the quality of speakers, superior student leadership and talent of future finance professionals produced by our school.”

The UAB FMA chapter is recognized on FMA’s website and in its membership publications. The chapter will also receive a special plaque to recognize this achievement.

Established in 1970, FMA is a leader in the dissemination and development of financial decision-making. The organization promotes the understanding of financial practices and enhances financial education for more than 4,000 students, academicians and practitioners around the world.
