Mark Hickson awarded prestigious Ecroyd Teaching Excellence Award

A UAB professor is recognized for his outstanding work in teaching and leadership.

Ecroyd and Caroline Drummond Ecroyd Teaching Excellence Award from the Eastern Communication Association.

“This recognition from the Eastern Communication Association reinforces my belief that teaching, and learning, are our reasons for being here,” Hickson said. “Certainly, it has always been my reason for being here. Teaching is not just a profession; for those who seek it, teaching is a life.”

For most of his career, Hickson says, UAB has provided him this opportunity.

“I have appreciated colleagues in a variety of disciplines and the students with whom I have had a chance to learn,” Hickson said.

The Ecroyd Teaching Excellence Award is presented annually to recognize excellence in teaching and demonstrating outstanding communication principles in teaching practices.

The nomination committee is composed of the past three winners of the award.
