Waugh named interim director of respiratory therapy program

Waugh also directs UAB's Center for Teaching and Learning.

jonathan_waugh_2012_3Jonathan Waugh, Ph.D., has been named the interim director of the Respiratory Therapy program in the UAB Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences in the UAB School of Health Professions. He replaces the program’s first director Wesley M. Granger, Ph.D., who stepped down after 18 years.

Waugh joined UAB in 1999, and for eight years he directed clinical education for the Respiratory Therapy program. He oversees the teaching enrichment program for the School of Health Professions and recently was named interim faculty director for UAB’s Center for Teaching and Learning. Waugh also holds an appointment as a scientist with the UAB Lung Health Center.

The Respiratory Therapy program was established at UAB in 1973 as a certificate/associate program, and in 1996 it was elevated as a baccalaureate degree.

Granger will continue to teach respiratory therapy and in the surgical physician assistant program. He will expand his research efforts with Barbara Gower, Ph.D. in the Department of Nutrition Sciences and be a research mentor for those faculty.
