New studios for UAB art faculty to be revealed in open house

Ten new studios will open this fall.

Faculty members in the UAB Department of Art and Art History and the College of Arts and Sciences will celebrate the opening of 10 new artist studios with an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.

Visitors will be encouraged to explore the studio space and see the latest works by each artist on display. Cahaba Brewing Co., a new, locally owned brewery specializing in small-batch craft beers, will provide beer for tastings during the event; food and other refreshments also will be provided for guests. The UAB Studios 2300 facility, located at 2300 Seventh Ave. South, includes studio space for Professor and Department Chair Erin Wright, M.F.A., and Assistant Professor Doug Barrett, M.F.A., both in graphic design; Assistant Professor John Douglas Powers, M.F.A., sculpture; Professor James Alexander, M.F.A., ceramics; Professor Bert Brouwer, M.F.A, and Professor Gary Chapman, M.F.A., both in painting; Assistant Professor Douglas Baulos, M.F.A., drawing; Professor Sonja Rieger, M.F.A., photography; Assistant Professor Christopher Lowther, M.F.A., digital media; and Associate Professor Derek Cracco, M.F.A., printmaking.
