The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees appointed Anath Shalev, M.D., to the Nancy R. and Eugene C. Gwaltney Family Endowed Chair in Juvenile Diabetes Research in the Department of Medicine in the UAB School of Medicine during its meeting Nov. 5, 2010.
Shalev received her medical degree from the University of Basel Medical School in Switzerland and joined the UAB faculty in October as professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and director of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center. Shalev is an internationally recognized authority in endocrinology, pancreatic beta-cell biology and the pathophysiology of diabetes.
