The Rev. Christopher M. Hamlin, chaplain/education specialist for the 1917 Clinic, a UAB clinic that aims to provide compassionate and comprehensive health care for persons living with HIV, has co-written “The Teaching Church, Congregation as Mentor.” The book, co-written by Birmingham native Sarah Jackson, is a collection of stories from dozens of pastors who shared how their congregations shaped their resolve to be religious servants.
Hamlin, who also serves as pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, has been living and serving in Birmingham since 1990. Through his work at the 1917 Clinic, he has participated in several research projects that have been published in scientific journals. Hamlin also serves on the Governor’s Commission on HIV/AIDS.
