David Allison picks up new honors in 2014

The annual award is to recognize outstanding papers related to environmental health sciences and public health that meet the aims, scope and high standards of this journal.

David Allison photo - IMG 5392smDavid Allison, Ph.D., associate dean for science in the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has already accrued many new honors in 2014.

The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Healthhas awarded Endocrine Disruptors and Obesity: An Examination of Selected Persistent Organic Pollutants in the NHANES 1999–2002 Data, a study on which Allison was senior author, first prize for the journal’s Best Paper Award 2014. The annual award is to recognize outstanding papers related to environmental health sciences and public health that meet the aims, scope and high standards of this journal.

Allison has also been selected as the 2014 W.O. Atwater Lecturer by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Agriculture Research Service. This lecture was established to recognize scientists who have made unique contributions toward improving the diets and nutrition of people around the world. The lecture will be presented during Experimental Biology 2014 in San Diego on April 26-30.

Allison has also been invited to serve as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science board-appointed Committee on Science and Technology Engagement with the Public for a three-year term. This committee supports the AAAS’ mission to “advance science, engineering and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people.”
