Several UAB professors to take the stage at TEDx Birmingham

TEDx Birmingham — Rediscover the Magic of Birmingham” — will be held Saturday, March 1 and will feature live talks in the spirit of the TED experience.

ted xThe University of Alabama at Birmingham will have a significant presence at the TEDx Birmingham event Saturday, March 1. The event, which features live talks in the spirit of the TED experience, is themed “Rediscover the Magic of Birmingham” and will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South.

Sarah Parcak, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Anthropology, is the co-organizer. She gave a TED talk on her archaeological work as a main stage presenter during the prestigious international conference last year. She also was recently named among the 2014 class of TED senior fellows.

The UAB faculty members slated to give talks at the Birmingham event include: Michele Forman, filmmaker and director of Media Studies, and Gary Warner, director of research in computer forensics in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences and co-founder of Malcovery Security.

Theresa Bruno, chair of the corporate board of UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center and a leader in global and local efforts pertaining to poverty and arts outreach, will also give a talk.
