grau webGrace Grau, instructor in the University of Alabama at BirminghamSchool of Nursing, has been named an associate of the American College of Cardiology. The associate designation, awarded to nurse practitioners, is the equivalent of the fellow designation for physicians.

For a nurse practitioner to earn this designation, they must be current in their research and be endorsed by three ACC fellows. Grau, in addition to her instructor role in the school, is enrolled in UAB’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program with a research focus on the best time to treat women with non-chest pain myocardial infarction.

Grau also is a volunteer with the American Heart Association. She provides education on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and heart-healthy meal preparation to the Alabama Hispanic population. She will be speaking at 11:10 a.m. at the Westin Hotel at 2221 Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North, on National Wear Red Day, Feb. 6, on current research and women’s heart health.

Grau will be inducted March 14 during ACC’s 64th Annual Scientific Sessions and Expo in San Diego, California.

The mission of the American College of Cardiology is to advocate for quality cardiovascular care — through education, research promotion, development and application of standards and guidelines — and to influence health-care policy.
